What Happens to Transparency?
Unlike JPG, PNG fully supports transparent pixels. By default, this tool keeps any transparency in your source image intact — nothing gets filled in. If you’d rather flatten the image onto a solid background (for example, adding a white background behind a logo), switch to “Add solid color” and pick your color before converting.
Does Converting to PNG Reduce File Size?
Usually not — and for photos, PNG files are often larger than the original. PNG’s lossless compression preserves every pixel, so it doesn’t shrink files the way JPG’s lossy compression does. Use PNG when quality and transparency matter more than file size; use JPG when file size is the priority.
