YouTube, which Google owns, recently announced that it will create a new policy to combat medical misinformation on its platform. The company said it would reexamine its guidelines related to the health content, which falls under three categories prevention, treatment, and denial. This step is because the company wants to eliminate content that contradicts well-established medical authorities about topics like cancer, Covid-19, reproductive health, cancer, harmful substances, etc.

This step will minimize public health risks due to the misinformation spread on the platform. Also, historically, Youtube couldn’t block or eliminate this type of content. However, YouTube will ensure that content in the public interest will remain available on the platform.
